Hello! This is Dmitriy "myatiy", medium-stakes cash game professional player and PBCP project coach. Over the years of coaching, I have managed to form a list of the most common preflop leaks. These situations occur most often and systematically reduce your win rate. Let's go:

1. Underestimate the rake being charged

Use the preflop charts that match the rake and rake cap for your limit! Don't assume that “true high-stakes preflop charts" will work for you. At microstakes, there are much more tight showdowns and preflop calls.

2. Call too often in free positions

The lower the limit you play, the more relevant this rule is! Again, the influence of the rake plays a role. In most poker sites, you are not charged rake pre-flop and if you choose to 3-Bet, you can generate fold equity here and now and pay no commission from post-flop. And if your opponent calls, there are still ways to take the pot. The recommendation is to 3-Bet more often rather than call Broadway combinations and middle pocket pairs.

3. Insufficient 3-Bets in late positions from blinds

I often see 8-10% 3-bet frequencies in late positions, which is too little. 2-5% of hands that can still be played very profitably through aggression are often missed. First of all about BB vs SB positions! In this situation, a wide mixed range of hands from various categories of hands can be played perfectly through 3-Bet on BB.

4. Insufficient 4Bets in favor of 3Bet calls

The main rule for adjustments against any type of aggression is to increase counteraggression. Playing against 3-bets is no exception, especially out of position! The basis of your defense should be to play from raises. You will improve your coverage in 4Bet pots and start burning your opponents’ equity more often.

5. Too rare squeezes in favor of 3rd/4th overcalls

Fear of inflating the pot in these cases will only make it harder to realize equity in a multipot. Attack more often with squeezes, many people overestimate fish ability to make a call in these spots.

6. Too rare iso3bets in favor of calls

Same as with squeezes, try to kick reg out of the pot more often, save your equity, and don't fraction it in a multipot.

7. Overestimating Ace-King in early positions

Many people think that this hand is never folded. But it is not uncommon that you can't call vs 4bet with this hand (along with JJ, QQ, etc.) and even less likely to go all-in. First of all, in full-ring games in early and middle positions.

Be careful, analyze your game, and don't make typical mistakes. Preflop is the foundation of your win rate. Join Freebetrange and add PBCP school charts in one click from our preflop library:
